PRO - you get new armor and styles! Which consist of the Far Harbor native gear, ‘Trapper’ armor, and ‘Marine Recon Armor’ which is sturdier than previous armors, but not nearly as heavy (carry-weight wise) as the Robot Armor introduced in ‘Automatron’. I really like the robots in Fallout, they’re good times. You get to use your detective skills and solve a murder - and again, you do it without resorting to violence… well except at the end, where if you’re smart you tag the real killer, and you have to fight him. PRO - some of the sidequests are VERY fun my favorite was the new Vault 118 that’s inhabited by robobrain robots, that are transformed humans from before the war. There’s really no way to tell! And DiMA introduces an idea that YOU YOURSELF might be a synth (shades of Deckard and Blade Runner!) early on when you first meet him, but after that early conversation ends THE SUBJECT NEVER COMES UP AGAIN! No follow-up quest, nothing. Kasumi left her home and parents because she thought she might be a synth replacement - you never REALLY find out if she is one, or just human and confused. All the darkness honestly did give me a headache.ĬON - BIG SPOILER HERE! - the whole ‘am I human or am I synth?’ questions were never satisfactorily answered. I’m certain there are countless other beautiful and fun items out there I still haven’t noticed. Which makes exploring and finding fun little areas EXTREMELY challenging and downright frustrating - there were numerous times I walked right past places and things and had no idea they were there, until I happened to walk past them again later on and finally saw them. Between the dark nights, the ever-present fog, the regular storms, and the radiation storms, you have about an effective 10-20 foot view about 85% of the time. PRO - the island of Far Harbor is large, with some interesting places and things to see.ĬON - YOU CAN’T SEE SHIT. The Children of Atom are also fun to learn about and you wind up wishing you could help them wise up.ĬON - pretty much all the humans, along with the other new main character, leader of the CoA (High Confessor Tektus), are one-dimensional assholes. PRO - DiMA is a very interesting new main character with a deep background and complex but conflicted philosophy, that bothers even him. Don’t worry though, even if you take the peaceful route there’s still plenty for you to kill. You still CAN kill everyone you don’t like in Far Harbor, but you have the ability NOT to! Which is how I played it, I finished the DLC by making peace between all the factions. PRO - Far Harbor returns to the original decision-making style of the Fallout games, where you actually have a choice and the ability to make diplomatic decisions and take a more peaceful path, instead of solving every problem by being a genocidal killing machine and wiping out everyone you don’t agree with in Fallout 4. You also get to deal with three competing factions (same as in the original Fallout 4 plot) DiMA and his Synths, the humans inhabiting Far Harbor who hate the Children of Atom, and the Children of Atom themselves, who are finally fleshed out and given identity and background. The main quest is really interesting, as you get to know Nick Valentine’s prototype ‘brother’ DiMA, and his sanctuary for Synths, and try to help the person you were sent to find (Kasumi) with her confusion as to whether she herself is a Synth, or human. PRO - it’s a good sized DLC, with a very nice mix of quests to go along with the main quest. Okay, so I’ve just finished up the main questline of the new Fallout 4 ‘Far Harbor’ DLC, along with all but ONE of the sidequests (the apparently broken ‘Shipbreaker’ quest), and here are my thoughts, Pros and Cons, in totally random order
